Nothing makes me more excited than stripes! If there is a classic winter staple to add into your closet, it’s a long sleeve striped dress! You can style them so many ways for cooler days and still feel like it’s summer! Living in a place that is warm almost always, I love the option of wearing long sleeve with a breeze on the legs!

How’s your weekend going?! Yesterday, I made peanut blossoms with a friend and it was a major fail. They were undercooked and then we made different ones and they burnt. We tried a third batch and they were hard and overcooked! Never had a problem with these cookies before so I am not sure what happened!

Also, every time I make these, I feel like I turn into a big blob of peanut butter because I eat so many of them, ha! Or a big pile of peppermint bark. That sums me up during Christmas time. They say you are what you eat, right?!

Can you believe that the dress is only $19.00?! That is a steal for sure! For the longest time it was sold out in both colors (comes in navy and white). Every few days I would stalk the Old Navy website and when the striped dress finally came back in stock, I jumped on it!

I am wearing a size small and it fits pretty true to size. It’s made of a super stretchy material, so the sleeves are fitted but the body is more relaxed (aka not skin tight!). Don’t want to look like I am going clubbing if you know what I mean. Also, I have extremely long arms and the sleeve hit right above my wrist bone.

Personally, I loved the white striped dress over the navy stripe! Now that I am looking at it though, there are endless possibilities on ways to add pops of color with the navy dress! Both are equally cute and it comes down to preference!

Stripes will always be nautical and transport me back to a warm summer day at the beach. To keep with the theme, I styled the striped dress with a yellow North Face raincoat. Praise the Lord for raincoats! I lived my entire life without one. Then one day my mom gifted me this jacket for Christmas and there’s no turning back. Good bye umbrellas.

How cute would the dress be with some yellow Hunter rain boots. I’ve dreamed of these shoes for forever and just need to bite the bullet one day and buy them! Because that is a cute rainy day look that I need in my life! It wasn’t exactly raining when I took these photos but the weather was yuck.

I paired the dress with white sneakers for a more casual outfit. These are my all time favorite canvas white sneakers and super comfy (only $35!)! They are on rotation all week long! Next time I wear the dress, I might also style it with a causal ball cap!

You could also pair them with loafers and flats! Instead of a rain jacket, try a sweater blazer or a denim jacket for an added layer! This is a very Christmas inspired post with long sleeved green dresses for winter! The house I shot these at just so happened to have green awnings…making it the perfect backdrop for December! We have had such a cold winter here in Florida this year for 2020. Really bizarre! We all wonder, “Will it stay. Will it go? How cold will Jan/Feb be?!” As cold as it’s been, the cooler temps never seem to stay forever and it always warms back up. Last week was 50 and sweater weather, this week it’s 80 and dresses to the rescue!

Long sleeve dresses are one of my go-to’s in the winter months. One, it’s super exciting to be able to wear long sleeves and two, when the upper body is warm there’s really no need for boots or tights. Lately, I have really been drawn to hues of green to bring some cheer to my fall and winter outfits!

This dress was a really popular style from J.Crew Factory and has sold out. It’s a babydoll style and I love the tiers! I found a similar babydoll style here! If you are looking for a more structured style, here’s a similar shift dress that comes in green, pink and black (on sale for under $20!). The evergreen color is versatile enough all of these dresses would be perfect for Christmas parties,, small celebrations at home and worn during winter!

If the temps do drop, dresses are easy to layer with sweater jacket or denim jackets! I chose to pair mine with woven loafers, a straw bag and a holiday scrunchie from my ETSY shop! Make it winter but keep it Florida!

Are you done with Christmas shopping?! I went the Mall at Millenia with my parents this weekend and finished up my Christmas shopping. Usually I am on top of my game. This year going away for Thanksgiving threw me off, so it’s a good feeling checking gifts off my list. Next up is wrapping them! I do this every year. If you wrap your gifts the week before Christmas you get to enjoy the entire week without stressing about getting all the gifts wrapped and other end of the year busyness!

I knew working in e-commerce it was going to be a big year for Christmas gifts but whoa, seeing some of the stores sucked dry of inventory is mind blowing! With so much more time being spent at home, Christmas for some seems like it’s going to be huge this year. That goes for everything. Gifts, decorations, traditions, and doing simple things to make the best of the weird year 2020 has been.

Bealls was kind enough to let me choose an outfit of my choice. It really was a no-brainer. This floral blue romper will get me through fall and I can wear it into Spring and summer. If your going on a beach vacation anytime soon, it would make the perfect casual outfit for exploring during the day or an outdoor dinner at night.

The open keyhole back totally sold me on the jumpsuit! Do you call them rompers or jumpsuits?! I feel like I totally go back and forth! It’s lightweight and can easy be styled with a denim jacket if the temps drop at night! Right now, it’s on sale for under $52! I found it on sale for $44 at Nordstrom! It has a slight v in the front and ties at the waist.

I was thrilled when I found these white leather Keds with gold detailing!

The leather is amazing because it cleans up to well! You can wipe of any skid marks or dirt with a damp wash cloth or towel. I love the clean and classic look to them to! I wish I would have known about these before I bought my canvas pair! Two pairs are better than one! They are extremely sturdy and a quality pair that will hold up for years to come. If your going on a trip, these are a no brainer to pack. They match with striped dresses, sundresses, skinny jeans and even beach cover ups!

If there’s one item I fully embraced in 2020, it’s white sneakers! Being at home more meant I swapped out heels and wedges for sandals and now white sneakers for fall and winter. As long as it’s not raining cats and dogs (which is has been), I wear them weekly! The best part is that they pair easy with dresses, skirts and jeans and can even make a dressier outfit more casual! I am alllll about casual these days, especially working from home.

This dress is fun because it’s actually more *dressy* than casual. When I paired it with my favorite J.Crew Factory white sneakers (under $35), I realized the dress instantly turns casual! I would honestly wear this dress with heels to a wedding because it gives those vibes and I have worn it with sneakers working from home!

I searched a bit and found this dress in a similar style with the back cut out and on sale for under $35! The dress also comes in a wrap dress with a v-cut!

My 3 Favorite Pairs of White Sneakers

I’m not sure why it took so long for me to embrace the white sneaker trend. Maybe it had to do with the Florida heat! Now that I have not one but two pairs, I love them so so much! Tretorns have really amazing reviews and if you read any blogs, you are probably aware their super popular with bloggers. The $75 price tag though was not my favorite.

When I found these J.Crew Factory sneakers for half the price, I jumped on it. They took about a week to break in and once they did, their super comfy and at a great price point to! The canvas does seem to pick up dirt and smudge marks faster but the good part is that you can throw canvas sneakers into the wash and they come out looking brand new!

You can get them dirty and wet and wash them off with a damp wash cloth or paper towel!

How to Style White Sneakers

There are soooo many ways to wear white sneakers! I love styling mine with dresses the most! Both mini and midi! Maxi dresses can be styled with sneakers for comfort you just can’t see them. You can also wear them with shorts, skinny jeans, mom jeans, overalls and skirts.

White sneakers instantly make any outfit super casual. The dress I have on is polyester, so the material is more silky. You can experiment a bit and style them with pieces that are cotton, polyester, silk, flannel or a rayon/spandex mix. The ski is the limit!

Can you believe Thanksgiving is SEVEN days away?! Me neither! I wanted to share some last minute Thanksgiving Day outfit ideas with similar items you can pull from your closet that you *hopefully* already own! It’s always fun to wear a brand new outfit but on holidays and celebrations, I am all about re-wearing your favorites over and over.

This year my family and I are driving up to Georgia and staying at a cabin. There will be 11 of us total and we plan on keeping it low key! I will most likely be wearing something really casual like jeans and a sweater or joggers and a sweater depending on the weather and what we plan on doing! All of these outfits are meant to be inspiration and not necessarily a push to buy something new. Enjoy! =)

You really cannot go wrong with a dress, especially if it’s warm where you will be celebrating! It’s always warm in Florida on Thanksgiving and I usually always wear a fall colored dress like orange, red, or ivory or a fun print like this leopard one. A lightweight cropped sweater and silk skirt is one of my favorite combos! It’s still dressy yet comfortable. Pair it with booties, slip on loafers or slippers!

You can never go wrong with a striped top! I love the contrast of navy styled with the burnt orange color. A striped top can pair well with green, burgundy and white also! A striped top would also look extra cute with basic white jeans!

Still in fall mode over here! That means lots of dresses including this adorable tiered leopard dress from J.Crew! Leopard is just one of those prints that I wear for only a few months per year and every time, it’s just as fun! It’s bold, unique and gives great autumn vibes! Usually I try and trick myself that it is actually cold out or will be cold and without a doubt, I remember I usually wear shorts in January! This dress is a warm weather girls way of dressing for fall.

I’ve felt a little under the weather the last few days so I’ve been laying low and resting at home. That also means I *might* have started to decorate for Christmas! I can totally justify it though, ha! My family and I are staying at a cabin in Georgia for Thanksgiving and we want to come home to a decorated house! I work in retail for an e-commerce website and Thanksgiving and Christmas are our big sellers so with a trip and a heavier workload, I thought…why not!!! When I saw this leopard print dress on J.Crew, I loved it at first sight! First I love the print! It’s called leopard dot and is not as bold or out there as a normal leopard print which I like! The shape is more fitted on the top and chest area then becomes more A-line and flares out a bit. The babydoll silhouette is similar but I love this style even more! It gives more of a defined waist! It keeps going in and out of stock, so if you want it, I would sweep it up quickly!

All of the reviews for this leopard print dress said it ran large, so I ordered an XS. Everything fits perfect expect the sleeves. They are oddly so tiny I cannot button them. I’ve been thinking of ordered this dress in white and might size up to a Small just for the sake of the sleeves! If your not into leopard, white would be a good alternative and classic piece to wear year round!

Can I let you in on a little secret? These mom jeans fit perfectly fine before the Rona hit! Once we were quarantined I never put on jeans, duh, and it was also summer. Well, once everything started opening back up, guess what?! These jeans no longer fit! I could button them but it was muffin top galore and so uncomfortable! My mind kept saying, “Well they fit 4 months ago what happened” but the jeans just didn’t agree”. Fast forward six months and they finally fit!

All this to say, a size of clothing doesn’t matter! Who didn’t gain a few extra pounds during quarantine?! There were some days where I felt discouraged and wonderes why none of my shorts, pants skirts, etc. weren’t fitting anymore. I questioned if I should change my diet, exercise more, be more restrictive, then I said NO to all those sizes and donated all the old clothes that didn’t fit. Instead I just wore lots of dresses.

Wearing a specific size really does not matter! I ordered new white jeans in a size larger than I normally do and am happy with how they fit. No matter your weight or clothing size, your still have value, worth and are beautiful!

Mom jeans are definitely one piece of clothing I never thought I’d wear till I tried them on! These American Eagle pair jeans are extremely flattering, have a casual and semi relaxed fit and hit right above the ankle! They hug your curves in just the right way and I would choose them any day over skinny jeans!

They are made with polyester and cotton. So while they don’t have spandex and are not extremely stretchy like skinny jeans, if you size up one size, they will have a relaxed fit to them. I’m wearing a size 6 and find they start out more fitted and stretch out as you wear them all day into a more relaxed fit.

I styled them with this olive green top I recently picked up from LOFT! Getting dressed in Fall in Florida is always a challenge. It’s not that I don’t want to wear all of the puffer vests, coats, sweaters, cozy dresses and booties. I do! It’s just not realistic. Instead, it’s easier to stick to a color palate of fall hues and wear lots of lightweight tops, denim and dressed in those colors. Next week I have a few fall dresses to show you where I followed the “fall hue” rule!

This top is lightweight, 100% cotton, has bold sleeves and comes in navy! It looks as cute styled casually with mom jeans and it would styled tucked in with a corduroy skirt! To top it off, I styled it with raffia accessories and shoes!

During the work week, my morning routine has changed a bit since the Rona hit. I wake up and usually make breakfast then work in my pajamas until about 9:30/10:00 AM and then get dressed to go on a walk. It works for me and when I’m wearing a cute set, I want to squeeze as much wear in as possible!

I am way more productive when I change out of my pajamas so it’s never an issue that I am going to wear them all day. But hey, if you are productive in them or just want to be cozy and cute all day, go for it!!! I recently bought this blue shorts pair with red piping from J.Crew Factory (under $40). This is my favorite place to shop for pajamas because of the affordable prices! The cotton is not as soft as my J.Crew pajamas but I can’t complain.

This long sleeve and pants set looks like a big candy cane and is a cute non-traditional holiday pajama set! I prefer to wear short sleeve and shorts sets just because I get way more use out of them in Florida! We met on Instagram and bonded over our love of preppy and classic style, non-traditional decor and we both live in coastal towns! Even though we’ve never met in person, I know we would be lifelong friends and hope to meet IRL one day!!!

Shannon lives in Ohio, loves everything blue and white and brings a fun twist because she has the cutest cold-weather style! Something I clearly lack! Think hunter boots, puffer vests, plaids, blazers. stripes and shift dresses! We both wear our fair share of stripes and you know I will be chatting about stripes in todays post! We’ve been wanting to collaborate for a while, but you know, life got in the way! We finally set a date and knew we wanted to share about a topic we both have lots of knowledge in which is dressing preppy on a budget!

Build Your Wardrobe Staples Up

Every wardrobe needs to start with a good foundation! My style leans more toward coastal and classic with preppy mixed in. You will find me wearing more structured dresses than shift dresses and more plaid than tartan. This list below is similar to a capsule wardrobe but not as restricted. All of the items are meant to be mixed and matched together. Once you have all of the foundational pieces, it makes getting dressed easier then your able to stretch out and add more patterns and one of a kind pieces!

You guys know I love a colorful outfit more than anything. For preppy and classic staples, I love adding colors like navy, red and neutrals like ivory, tan and white. Then as you grow your wardrobe, you can add in prints and more bright colors!

Where to Shop for Preppy Pieces

Goodness I love to shop! There are so many awesome stores to shop for preppy clothes! Some of my favorites are J.Crew Factory, J.Crew, LOFT and Tuckernuck. The outfit I’m wearing above costs me less than $150! The white skinny jeans were $40 on sale from Everlane, the Sperry shoes were on sale for $50, earrings were $12, the shirt and bag were gifts and the denim jacket is probably 10 years old and only cost me $20.

If you look hard enough and keep an eye out, it’s more than possible to find affordable and quality pieces for really great prices. Gap has really great basics, J.Crew Factory has cute seasonal and striped pieces and you can find all your favorite preppy brands sold at Poshmark for 1/2 the price! Poshmark is also great for finding your favorite preppy looks from past seasons!

Quality Over Quantity

If there’s one rule to follow when buying preppy clothes, it would be stick to quality clothes vs. the quantity. If you buy a striped top from Target for $10 but it only lasts you 5 wears and then gets holes when you wash it, paying the $35-$50 up front a higher quality striped shirt will be better for you in the long run.

Sometimes you can get a striped t-shirt dress on sale at J.Crew for the same price as a J.Crew regular priced t-shirt dress and the quality will be better and it will end up lasting longer.

Shop Sales

Even as a fashion blogger, I pretty much only shop sales, no matter what! You can get some amazing quality pieces for awesome prices if you know when to hit the sales. Like the Lilly Pulitzter After Party Sale! This sale happens 2x/year and it’s rare because Lilly almost never goes on sale.

J.Crew, J.Crew Factory, Gap, LOFT and Old Navy have frequent sales too! Make sure to sign up for their newsletters to be notified of any sales they are having! The more you shop at these stores, the more rewards you get that can be applied to your order. I’ve been able to get free swimsuits, shoes for $10 and dresses for under $20 with reward points!

If you are super loyal to a store, applying for their credit cards will give you free shipping every time! J.Crew and J.Crew Factory are two of my favorite stores to shop at. I have a J.Crew credit card and I get free shipping on all of my orders, monthly rewards and Birthday rewards!

Shopping in off seasons will help save money too! August/September, January/February, April/May are the best months to buy end of season pieces and then save them for the following year! I’ve done this since I was a kid and it feels like Christmas every time you put on a new shirt, swimsuit, sweater or dress months later!

Use can also ask if they accept student, teacher or military ID’s at the stores I listed above! Most of these stores will give you 10% to 15% off your entire order if you show they the ID!

The top, pants and necklace are the most pricey items in this list. $50 is the cap for what I usually spend on a top, pants or dresses. It’s what works best for my budget, allows me to buy quality pieces and I can wear them over and over with multiple items! Remember, what you spend on each piece is totally up to you and will depend on your personal preference and budget.
